Gannifaris and Black Holes: Server Transfer Rewards

BioWare are offering a nice little incentive for anyone that hasn’t taken up their offer of a free character transfer. Those incentives being 25 Black Hole Commendations and a Gannifari pet.

You can read all the info here, but here are the overall conditions:

Both rewards are granted to any character that meets the following criteria:

  • Your character(s) must be on a qualifying server (which includes destination servers) and your account must be active by July 30, 2012 at 11:59 PM CDT / July 31, 2012 at 4:59AM GMT.
  • Your account must not be banned.

If you do not have a character on a qualifying server by July 30, 2012 at 11:59 PM CDT / July 31, 2012 at 4:59AM GMT, then you will not receive any rewards. The rewards will be sent via in-game mail by August 7, 2012 at 11:59PM CDT / August 8, 2012 at 4:59AM GMT.

To start the character transfer process, login to your account, click My Account and then click ‘Character Transfer’ in the left hand menu. From there you will be able to select “Start a Character Transfer” to see if you have any characters eligible for transfer to pre-selected serves.

For more information on this program, please visit our Character Transfer FAQ and be sure to look at all the eligible origin, destination and reward qualifying servers at www.swtor.com/transfer.

Over to you: do the rewards mean you’ll now make the jump or have you already?

Server transfers: updated list

We’ve not reported extensively on this the past week, mainly because the majority of Oceanic players had the first free transfers a couple of months back. That said, it’s worth posting the list of server transfers as they stand now, to give an idea of the scale of things.

Not surprisingly, two of the server casualties were The Jekk’Jekk Tarr and Swiftsure, which were two of the three unofficial Oceanic servers prior to us getting our own. The third unofficial server, The Harbinger, is one of the destination servers so will have no shortage of players for the first time in a while since the Oceanic exodus.

Here’s the full list:

Over to you: are you waiting for a transfer?

Suggestion Box: Server Transfers

It feels a bit like the middle of a big storm in SWTOR for those of use who have requested a server transfer. Half of us have been blown away to other parts of the map while there’s a bunch more of us huddling down waiting for something to happen.

So that’s the basis of this week’s discussion: based on the server transfer process for Asia-Pacific players, what do you think needs to change for the game-wide server transfer system once it’s up and running? Should there be a cost to transfer?

Also, feel free to throw in what you though has worked well with the transfer system!

Server transfers: has your toon made the jump?

We’re into the first 24 hours (of a roughly 7-day period) of the server transfer window for eligible SWTOR players.

The reports have started coming in of those who’ve had successful transfers, so things are well and truly underway.

If you’ve had your character transfererd, let us know how it went! As per the picture on the post, I’m still waiting. Ahh well.

Asia-Pacific Server Transfer Details Released

UPDATE 2: It appears the form is now working for some so give it a go as per details below!

UPDATE: BioWare are aware that the server transfer page isn’t working properly and are working to rectify it. You can also post any issues you’re having in this official forum thread.

———–

It’s been a long-awaited event and it’s finally here. BioWare have released info on the ability for Oceanic players to transfer their toons to the Asia-Pacific Servers.

To read the main infoyou’ll need to be logged in on your account on the SWTOR website. Select ‘My Account’ under your username and the following info will display for you if you’ve met the eligibility requirements for transfer:

You are eligible to transfer characters to the new Asia Pacific servers.

Please fill out this form no later than April 24, 2012, 2:01PM EST, 4:01PM NZST, 12:01PM HKT, 12:01PM SGT to request complimentary server transfers for one or more of your eligible characters. Only characters created before February 28, 2012, 5:01PM EDT, 7:01PM NZDT, 2:01PM HKT, 2:01PM SGT qualify for transfers and are displayed below.

Character transfers will begin April 24, 2012, 8:00PM EST, 10:00PM NZST, 6:00PM HKT, 6:00PM SGT and may take up to 7 days. At some point during these 7 days, there will be a period of time of up to 3 hours where we will begin processing all requested character transfers associated with your account. You will be unable to play any characters that are on servers involving your character transfer requests during this time. If you are logged into one of these servers, you will be automatically logged off that server until the transfer is complete. If you are unable to log into any of these servers past the 3-hour window, please contact Customer Service.

You will be notified via email when your character transfer requests have been processed. Unsuccessfully transferred characters will remain on their original server. You may edit your character transfer requests at any time before April 24, 2012, 2:01PM EST, 4:01PM NZST, 12:01PM HKT, 12:01PM SGT.

If you choose to move your character to a new Asia Pacific server, please be aware of the following:

  • If your character name is already taken on the Asia Pacific server, your character will be transferred, but you will be prompted to choose a new name for the character when you log into the new server.
  • You cannot exceed 8 characters (including transferred and non- transferred characters) on any given destination server.
  • If you have unlocked a Legacy name on the Asia Pacific server, any characters transferred to that server will use the Asia Pacific server’s Legacy name.
  • If you have not unlocked a Legacy name on the Asia Pacific server and the transferred character is eligible for a Legacy unlock by completing Chapter One of their class stories, you will be prompted to choose a Legacy name when you log into the new Asia Pacific server.
  • The character will no longer be a part of its guild – Guilds and guild membership will not be transferred to your new server. You will need to create or join a new guild on your new server.
  • Your Friends and Ignore lists will be reset – These lists are server specific, so you will need to repopulate your lists with players from your new server.
  • The Asia Pacific server of your character transfer request does not need to match the server type of your original server.

Before you transfer your character, it is important to ensure the following:

  • The character has no items listed on the Galactic Trade Network (auction house) – active Galactic Trade Network listings will not be transferred to your new server.
  • The character has no items or credits in their mailbox – In-game mail will not be transferred to your new server. Make sure you have removed everything in your mailbox before initiating the transfer. Otherwise, the contents will be lost.

Have questions? See the Asia Pacific Character Transfer FAQ for more details.

Over to you: will you be transferring and if so, how many characters?

Legacy Names and Server Transfers: Clarification

There’s been a hell of a lot of interest in what the impact of the free server transfers will have on those who have finalised their legacy names. Stephen Reid has jumped in with some information, albeit with the disclaimer that nothing is finalised:

On question (2), you will be able to transfer multiple characters, although there will be some limitations (eg available slots on a server). Again, more details will come closer to the time, but you will not be limited to one character.

On question (3) the only current restrictions are listed in the FAQ. After transfer:

The character will no longer be a part of its guild – Guilds and guild membership will not be transferred to your new server. You will need to create or join a new guild on your new server.

Your Friends list will be reset – Friend lists are server specific, so you will need to repopulate your list with players from your new server.

Before you transfer your character, it is important to ensure the following:

The character has no items listed on the Galactic Trade Network (auction house) – active Galactic Trade Network listings will not be transferred to your new server.

The character has no items or credits in their mailbox – In-game mail will not be transferred to your new server. Make sure you have removed everything in your mailbox before initiating the transfer. Otherwise, the contents will be lost.

Just as big as the confirmation that legacy names won’t be affected, is the mention that more than one character is able to be transferred for free. As mentioned above, if you’ve got a whole bunch of toons and a server is verging on full, there may be an issue, but for the majority, your couple of alts will be transferred as well.

Over to you: does this put your mind at rest?

Australian Server Transfers: BioWare update

BioWare’s Stephen Reid has posted an update on the official forums on the delay between the local server availability and the late April implementation of free transfers. HIs response essentially mirrors that of the one Gabe Amatangelo gave us yesterday, but it’s still worth a read:

Hello everyone. I can absolutely understand the frustrations expressed here, and I appreciate that for the most part, you’re being constructive in your comments. Here’s a little more insight into the situation.

The character transfer system is being actively worked on by the development team. It’s a large, complex project, made more complicated by the Legacy System – and it has to work perfectly. As always, it is not the only task the team as a whole is undertaking, but it’s a priority. It has not been deliberately delayed, nor is it being ‘held back’ for any reason. As you know, the first stage of the system will be a one-off, optional transfer for those who are based in the regions defined in our FAQ. At some point after that, we’ll bring a more fully-featured character transfer system online for all to use.

I can understand the frustration of those of you who have been playing on the US servers and waiting for transfers. We know your enthusiasm and excitement for the game – you wouldn’t have taken the steps you did to get the game earlier than the official launch if you weren’t enthusiastic. We’re working as hard as we can to get the system in place. If we could have brought it online earlier, we would have. However, priorities post-launch had to be directed towards the game itself. The team’s been working flat-out to improve the game, including bug fixes and additional content.

When we announced our launch territories last year we knew many more fans were excited to play The Old Republic. That’s why we moved quickly to launch in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore, with more territories being lined up for future launches. Our primary focus when launching in any new territory has to be to reach more players. Ultimately, that’s best for the continuing success of the game. We want everyone who wishes to play on the new servers to be able to do so, hence character transfer being offered. With that said, in this case we felt it was important to get the game into the hands of new players as soon as possible. That, combined with our post-launch development priorities, meant that character transfer did not make our launch date for these territories.

The development team remains committed to delivering a robust character transfer system for all, with our first priority being for Asia-Pacific players. If we can bring the system to you earlier than expected, we will, but for now we’re aiming towards late April.

So it’s a call for patience folks – and there’s really not a lot of choices beside being patient, otherwise you’re going to have a frustrating seven or eight weeks…

Asia-Pacific Transfer Emails Start Flowing In

As promised, BioWare have started sending out the emails to those SWTOR players eligible for the free server transfers at the end of April.

The most interesting part is the confirmation of what won’t transfer across if you choose to change servers:

If you request a transfer, the following will not be moved as part of this request:

• Friends List

• Auction Items

• In-Game Mail

• Guild Membership

Nothing really surprising there as we already knew guild membership wouldn’t transfer and the other three things can be remedied by individual players prior to transfer.

If you had originally set up a US address but changed it to Australia prior to there 28tj February, you should still get the email – we’ve already had someone confirm they’ve received theirs under that scenario (thanks for letting us know Tim!)

Over to you: have you received your email yet?

SWTOR Free Server Transfers: ‘Late April’

UPDATE: 18th April 2012 – The actual transfer date and conditions have been announced.

The FAQ for the Asia-Specific launch has now been updated, and it clarifies to some extent when the free server transfers will occur.  The quote in full is:

Qualified players in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, or Singapore, will be offered one-time free character transfers to Asia Pacific servers for a limited time period in late April. No specific date has been confirmed at this time. We will be sending an email to all qualified players by early March with more details. Stay tuned to www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com for more information.

So for those hoping to transfer their primary toon in the next week or so, you have a bit of a wait yet. My guess is that the transfers may be part of a wider implementation of server transfers for the game as a whole. So I suppose you’ll just need to start levelling up an alt – I know I am.
